I first met you back in 2016 at your market stall in Greenwich Peninsula. I’ve kept your Sumatran Tiger print business card ever since. Do you remember anything about that day? 

Ha-ha yes! It was one of those spring days where one minute it’s pouring with rain followed by a short burst of beautiful sunshine then more rain. Not ideal for an outdoor design market! Luckily we were in tents but the footfall was terrible and it was probably one of my most disheartening market days EVER! I was so surprised to find out that you’d discovered my work on that day! I remember being pretty miserable in my damp tent!

An appetite for destruction- Oli Roberts, founder of Oskar illustration.

Well not really. I’m a pretty placid chap. Always have been. But in 1987, as a boy aged 6, I clearly remember seeing a cross, emblazoned with different skulls on a poster somewhere in Leicester.

This was the Guns n Roses cover artwork to their debut album. And I wanted to have it more than anything in the world. More to be the proud owner of this raw and rebellious illustration rather than the music itself. I’m sure at the time I thought it just looked ‘wicked’.

Eventually, after a strong campaign of nagging, my mum succumbed and I was blasting out ‘Welcome to The Jungle’ on my cassette player. This was a watershed moment and my gateway to heavy metal for the next 5 years. I was obsessed with cover artworks, from Iron Maiden to Megadeth.
